hey jasmine! I love your blog, its so helpful and you seem like such an awesome person! I am a student heading to college and i was wondering, what is the best major to pursue if i want to be a pt? I am stuck between biology or psychology, or even a double major of both. My parents think solely majoring is psychology is impractical since im paying so much for college. Do you have any advice? Thanks!

I have just received two strikingly similar questions. The second, from Sharpenlight is: “Can you talk about the pros and cons of being a psych major? Was it beneficial in applying to PT school, or did it make it hard to fulfill your pre-reqs (since it is not something like biology)“ Here are my thoughts: […]

You’re awesome. I’ve been reading your post and they are nice to look at. Encouraging and informative! I plan to apply this coming july- august. Wanted to say congratulations on graduation and keep posting. It will be cool to read what’s in store on the other side.

Thanks! Good luck with your applications and I’ll be sure to keep everyone updated on life “on the other side!”

Interesting PT ethics question in today’s NYT (last question). Should PT’s be reimbursed by patients for doing things like reviewing exercise DVD’s? My thought is that if the PT does want to get reimbursed, she should state it before reviewing the DVD. But I wonder if she should be reimbursed the same as for a

Hi! Your blog is really helpful, and congrats on graduating! I am just about to graduate from undergrad and have gone through the whole thing as pre-med. However, I’ve realized that’s not really what my heart is and am veering strongly toward PT. I’m having trouble completing my decision though, because I don’t really know much about PT other then what I’ve experienced as a patient. Other than shadowing, how did you decide it was right for you?

The way I made my decision was by talking to a PT and hearing what he had to say about the field. I later worked as  PT aide for him and with that immersion knew that it was the right field for me. My advice for you would be to try to shadow a few

I recently heard some kind words from a reader. She said: “Just because yesterday was the commitment day I wanted to share with you that I have committed to a 3+3 DPT program. I’ve wanted to be a PT since my freshman year in high school and I took AP chem last year to look

Begin rant.

One of my best days so far as a PT-in-training has been when one of my patients walked for the first time in months as well. Like you, I also cried. She was a very special woman and I’m honored to have played a role in helping her recover. Our job can be amazingly rewarding!

Hey Jasmine! At your time at school, I’m sure you heard a lot about your classmates’ treks to get into PT school. I’m taking a year off before applying to school, and I need to retake four classes that I received C’s in to increase my chances of getting in. Do you know anyone in your class or any other aspiring PT student who went through the same thing? I’m a little uneasy that having to retake those courses are going to jeopardize my chances of getting accepted. Thanks!

I have a heard a lot about my classmates’ paths to PT school. Probably about half took at least a year off before applying, so that part should be fine. I’m really not sure if anyone spent that year retaking four classes. I assume that wasn’t the case, but then again, if that was true
