Essays:
- What is the 2024-2025 PTCAS personal statement prompt?
The 24-25 PTCAS essay prompt is: “Every applicant is unique in their own way, possessing individual qualities, abilities, and backgrounds. What unique traits will you bring to the physical therapy profession that will help you to be successful?”
- How can I get started working with you?
Send me an email with a Word or Google doc with your essay attached and submit payment, and I will start ASAP!
- How can you help me with my essay?
I start off by reading your whole essay to make sure it is on topic, answers the prompt well, and highlights you as a unique and qualified applicant without being cliche. If it does not meet these criteria, I might suggest you rewrite it. (If I don’t suggest you rewrite it, then I think we can work with what you have). Next, I use track changes to edit for content, clarity, grammar, and typos. I send it back to you after this so you can edit it again and add/change anything you want. Once you make these edits and send it back to me, I edit a second time. You always have the option to purchase additional rounds of editing, but this is not typically needed. You do not have to make any of the edits I suggest.
- Can you help me brainstorm for my essay?
Yes, I’d be happy to! We can do this via email once we get started as part of essay editing. It is INCLUDED in the editing process. Send me an email with your ideas/outline and a resume to begin.
- What makes you qualified to edit my essay?
I am both a physical therapist and a professional writer. I was a journalist before becoming a PT. I have edited pre-PT essays for the last eight admission cycles, and have helped hundreds of applicants get into over 175 PT schools. As an undergrad, I studied psychology and communication at Cornell University, while serving as an editor of The Cornell Daily Sun. I got into every PT school I applied to and happily attended Columbia University’s DPT program. As a student, I helped out with admissions by volunteering at interview days, and I still keep in touch with professors at different PT programs about admissions. I’ve now been a PT for nine years, working in outpatient orthopedics. I am the ONLY person who reads your essays and I do not share them with anyone else.
- How soon can you edit my essay?
I can almost always start right away! For a small rush fee, I will get your edits back to you within a day, but otherwise I can get it done within 2-7 days. I work part time as PT, and my summers and fall are dedicated to your essays!
- How long should the main PTCAS essay be?
The essay is capped by PTCAS and can’t be longer than 4500 characters (not words). If you write less than 4,000, I’ll suggest things you can add to it to answer the prompt properly. If you write between 4500-5000, I can help you cut it down. If you write over 5,000, I can give you input, but you’ll have to trim it down before I can start editing because that would involve too much rewriting for me. Also, if you send me your essay via Google Docs, I cannot get an accurate character count because the system counts words that get deleted. A Word doc is preferable if you need help cutting down your essay.
- What format should I send the essay in?
I prefer Word docs, but Google docs work too (although they do not provide an accurate character count once I start editing). I cannot edit PDF’s. I do all edits via tracked changes and will either attach your Word doc back to you in an email or edit via Google doc. If we’re using Word, you must DOWNLOAD the file I send you each time to see my edits — looking at the preview will not work.
- Can you write the PTCAS essay for me?
Nope! That is plagiarism.
- What is the difference between the PTCAS personal statement and PTCAS essay?
They are the same thing! A personal statement is a type of essay, so I use the terms interchangeably.
- Will I definitely get into PT school?
I wish I could guarantee that, although unfortunately, I can’t. But I have worked with hundreds of students who have gotten into over 175 PT schools!
- How much does it cost?
I charge according to the character or word count limit listed in the prompt. The main PTCAS essay is $100. I offer discounts if you are editing more than one essay (again, depending on character count), so email me to learn more about that!
- How do you accept payment?
I accept:
- Venmo (@jmarcusdpt)
- Cash App (@jmarcusdpt)
- PayPal (jmarcusdpt@gmail.com)
- Apple Pay (email me for details)
- Zelle (message me for the email)
- Credit Card: 4500-character essay here
Payment is due before I start editing.
