Hi! So I have two questions: I Would enroll in a PT program after graduating college, right? And what if I do not get accepted into a program, what do I do then?

As I’ve said to other readers, when to enroll in PT programs is a personal decision. Most students enroll after graduating, but others take time off to work, gain additional experiences, or, like me, they didn’t decide to become a PT until after working in other careers. If you don’t get accepted, I recommend asking […]

3.8 GPA/ 200+ observation hours /Collegiate All American swimmer. When should I e-submit my PTCAS? I am going to be a senior, what term should I be applying for? FALL 2014

Your stats sound, good, but they shouldn’t really affect when you apply. You can’t apply for fall 2014 unless you’ve taken the GRE (or plan on taking it this fall), written a good essay, gotten recommendation letters, and finished all or most of your pre-requisite courses. If you have met these and other requirements, then

I apologize in advance if you’ve answered this question already. What are your goals after you graduate? I’m trying to gain some more insight between starting my own clinic as opposed to working for an organization.

Although I’m not exactly sure what I want to do when I graduate, I have some general ideas. I’d like to specialize in ortho, so to start I’ll consider whether a residency would be helpful, or if not, I’d like to work in either a private clinic or the outpatient department of a hospital. One

What did you take in undergrad? Also did you do a masters? I haven’t found any DPT programs in Canada :( What is the difference with masters/doctorate for PT?

As an undergrad, I majored in psychology and minored in communication, while planning to be a journalist. I changed career paths after graduating and spent a year taking science pre-requisite courses while applying to DPT programs. I did not do a master’s and they have pretty much been phased out in America. The doctorate is

Hi! I was wondering if you’ve ever shadowed in a hospital setting. All of the hospitals around me have volunteer programs, but that does not include direct shadowing that you can list under the application. Do you have advice for finding a PT to shadow?

I spent six weeks shadowing at a hospital, and it was a great experience. I remember having to call a few different hospitals in my area before I found one that would agree to let me shadow. The “volunteers” are usually people helping out in the hospital as a good deed, rather students than seeking
