Hey Jasmine! At your time at school, I’m sure you heard a lot about your classmates’ treks to get into PT school. I’m taking a year off before applying to school, and I need to retake four classes that I received C’s in to increase my chances of getting in. Do you know anyone in your class or any other aspiring PT student who went through the same thing? I’m a little uneasy that having to retake those courses are going to jeopardize my chances of getting accepted. Thanks!

Hi Jasmine! I’m a junior in high school and over the summer I volunteered for the outpatient clinic at the VA Hospital. With over 110 hours, I became close with many of the PTs and PTAs. As only a high school student, what else can I do to prepare me for college? Should I start memorizing the muscles and bones of the body now? Or wait until college? What more can I do?

It won’t hurt to look at muscles and bones, but you’ll memorize them when you have to for class, so don’t drive yourself crazy with it now. I would keep trying to get as much PT experience as possible now. Since you’ve done outpatient, try shadowing in a hospital, school, nursing home, or other settings

Hello. I have been reading your posts for about a year now and I have learned a lot from you. I am an undergrad with 3 semesters left until graduation. I have good grades and will more than likely get into a physical therapy program but I feel like those grades don’t really reflect my knowledge. I guess my question is in what ways can I prepare myself for physical therapy school? Will studying anatomy and physiology a bit each day prepare me? Just how much physics material will I need to know?

As long as you fulfill the pre-requisites that the school wants you to take, you should be prepared for PT school. If you take the physics classes as your pre-req’s it will be enough. I am currently stagnant when it comes to the PTCAS essay prompt as well as my own personal statement for PT programs. How was your process of writing up the personal statement and PTCAS essay when you were applying? I know I should have many people take a look at whatever I got once its drafted, but I’m not sure where to start. Do you suggest taking a look at other written personal statements? I just don’t want that to stunt my creativity and originality.

I started writing the essay a few separate times without looking at what I had written previously so that each time I wrote it, I wrote from a different angle. Eventually I read everything I had written, and pulled the parts I thought were best. If you think it would be helpful to look at
