Hello! I’ve recently come across your blog and I amazed at your work. I am interested in becoming a PT as well, but I am currently discouraged at the pricing of schools and my grades for certain prerequisites. I’ve read (so far in your blog) that personality and experience are important during interviews. In your experience, do you think grades are what catch interviewers eyes based on applications? Any information would help for an aspiring PT. Thanks, and good luck!

Thanks for the kind words! Each school has different standards and ways of handling grades. While some schools throw out applications below a certain GPA, others are more inclined to look at the applicant as a whole. Is it possible for you to retake some of those classes? Is there an important reason why those […]

Hello, I just found your blog today and I just want to say thank you. Reading your blog just really encouraged me more to pursue being a physical therapist. I’ve been doubting myself and my abilities, but after going through your posts I just feel more confident about my choice. So thank you so much for giving us your insight in this whole process.

Thanks for the compliment; I’m so glad I was able to encourage you so much! Good luck on your physical therapy journey and feel free to ask if you have any questions along the way.

First Week In

Last week was a busy first week back in school following our first full-time, 8-week-long clinical and winter break. It’s exciting to hear about all my classmates’ experiences. Since everyone was in different settings, each of us has a unique new set of tools to bring back to the classroom with us. The professors respect

Hey! I know it’s too early to tell, but what do you anticipate this semester? How do you feel about it?

I’m excited for the semester! It’s going to be busy — we’re taking 6 classes that go from 8am-5pm every day — and time management will be key. But I’ve heard that everything tends to come together after you’ve been out on a clinical. I’m also excited to take so many of the classes. Peds

Fun fact for the first day of the semester. It’s a bad idea to do something that involves a new motor skill on a first date. You won’t impress.

Hi! I’ll be finishing my undergrad this coming spring. However, I’m missing couple of pre-reqs for PT school. If all goes according to plan I can have it finished by fall 2014 or the latest spring 2015. I’m confused with the application process. When should I start applying? I have yet to take my GRE’s. Also, I never took statistic, and most school requires it. However, I did take calculus and bio statistics. Do you think schools will accept one of those classes?

I think you should apply to start in summer/fall 2015, which means you start applying anytime after summer 2014. Most schools will allow you to apply while you’re still finishing up a few pre-req’s, but each school has different requirements about this. As for the math classes, you’ll have to check with each school to

I know there’s this whole issue about calling PTs doctor or not. What’s your opinion on this and what would you want to be called?

Since all but one physical therapy program in the US has already switched over to the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, and the degree has already existed for at least 10 years, I don’t see the point in people arguing over the title; It is already happening (and has been for several years). If you
