After applying and scoring an interview, most of the hard work applying to PT school is done, but often one stressor remains: What is proper PT program interview attire?
As with most things in life, it’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed. First impressions are always important, and for better or worse, dressing up is part of that.
The general rule of thumb is suits for everyone. Men can instead wear a dress shirt and tie with a jacket or blazer. Women typically wear pantsuits with a nice blouse. Your clothes should be clean, neat and wrinkle free. Avoid jeans, leggings, and t-shirts, as well as ripped or overly worn clothing. Hair, makeup, and jewelry should be neat, clean, and professional.
Everyone should also try to wear dress shoes, while avoiding sneakers and sandals. Keep in mind that your interview might involve a tour, so make sure the shoes are broken in and comfortable as you might be doing a fair bit of walking. For this reason, dress weather appropriately if you can, bringing a coat if you’re somewhere cold or an umbrella if rain is expected.
As for virtual interviews, if no guidelines are given, err on the side of caution and dress up formally as if the interview is in person.
