One of my best days so far as a PT-in-training has been when one of my patients walked for the first time in months as well. Like you, I also cried. She was a very special woman and I’m honored to have played a role in helping her recover. Our job can be amazingly rewarding!

I work in healthcare. I provide physical therapy services in a skilled nursing facility. On most days, I love my job.  The fact that I
can physically rehabilitate a patient from being bed-bound to the point
where they can walk out the front door, get in a car and go home is a
rewarding experience that words cannot appropriately justify.I
get very passionate about my work at times.  Passionate to a point there
I may or may not have started crying today when one of my patients
walked for the first time in months.  MONTHS.  The other therapist, who
works closely with me for this particular patient, and I were so happy
and excited when this guy started walking.  We all hugged, gave high-5′s
and were cheering so loudly that a couple of nurses walked by the room
just to see what all the commotion was about.  This patient has some
pretty rough medical complications and has been working HARD in therapy
to get stronger, improve endurance and to just get well.  Today was a
milestone.  And we were all very proud of him.  Today was a day that I
love my job.
