Hey Jasmine! At your time at school, I’m sure you heard a lot about your classmates’ treks to get into PT school. I’m taking a year off before applying to school, and I need to retake four classes that I received C’s in to increase my chances of getting in. Do you know anyone in your class or any other aspiring PT student who went through the same thing? I’m a little uneasy that having to retake those courses are going to jeopardize my chances of getting accepted. Thanks!

I have a heard a lot about my classmates’ paths to PT school. Probably about half took at least a year off before applying, so that part should be fine. I’m really not sure if anyone spent that year retaking four classes. I assume that wasn’t the case, but then again, if that was true of someone, they probably didn’t go around telling everyone they knew about it. I do know of at least one classmate who was told by a professor on her interview that her undergraduate grades weren’t good enough. Obviously, she still got in and did well.

I would suggest contacting some PT schools to see what they think. And when you do apply, you should definitely be prepared to explain in your essay or another part of your application why you needed to retake four classes. You also should get all A’s in those classes the second time around. PT school is much harder than college so you’re going to need to work hard to show the schools that you can handle the grad school coursework if you want them to accept you. Good luck!
