Hi Jasmine! I’m a junior in high school and over the summer I volunteered for the outpatient clinic at the VA Hospital. With over 110 hours, I became close with many of the PTs and PTAs. As only a high school student, what else can I do to prepare me for college? Should I start memorizing the muscles and bones of the body now? Or wait until college? What more can I do?

It won’t hurt to look at muscles and bones, but you’ll memorize them when you have to for class, so don’t drive yourself crazy with it now. I would keep trying to get as much PT experience as possible now. Since you’ve done outpatient, try shadowing in a hospital, school, nursing home, or other settings with physical therapists. Besides volunteering and shadowing, you can also try getting a job as a PT Aide. Also, keep in touch with any PTs you meet. They can provide invaluable advice and contacts in the future. It sounds like you’re on the right path, so keep it up!
