Benefits of Being a Post-Bacc Student

US News wrote an article today about pre-med post-baccalaureate programs. Since I’m in a similar program for pre-DPT, I thought I’d share my reactions:

  • Mentorship – I’m in a club for those entering the healthcare professionals and the professors in the club do a great job preparing the students, especially the post-baccs.
  • Small class-size – As an undergrad, I found it difficult that most of my classes – including the sciences – had about 200 students in them. It makes it hard to form a connection both with the professor and with other students, and nearly impossible to ask a question. I’ve definitely benefited from the small classes at my post-bacc school. I have gotten to know my professors, made friends to study with, and am able to ask tons of questions. It is very conducive to a good learning experience.
  • Competition – I haven’t found the program to be competitive, but maybe that’s because we’re all looking to go into different fields. Instead, we support each other and help each other study, especially because as a whole, we’re more focused on our schoolwork than the majority of the undergrads in our classes.
