I had a great talk today with one of the PTs where I work about confidence. He said that now that I’ve been there a few months, he’s starting to guide me to figuring things out on my own more. This will develop confidence in my thought process and decision-making skills.
He said that one of the most important traits a PT can have is confidence: “How else can two people have completely opposite treatment methods, but both achieve results?”
According to him, you can’t just listen to what every single person tells you to do. Instead, you have to take it all in and then decide what works for you, while leaving behind what doesn’t. This way, you’ll be confident that what you do works, and you’ll be better at treating your patients.
I think that’s a really interesting take on things, especially since I have witnessed first-and the contrasting methods different PTs can have. I definitely intend to be critical with everything I have to learn, and I will try to ensure that all this knowledge empowers me to do what I do.
