The first time becoming a physical therapist dawned on me was early in high school when I saw one for the first time after injuring myself during cross country practice. To put it simply, I was awed by my PT’s knowledge of the human body. Just by hearing a few symptoms of mine, she was able to diagnose the problem and offer up a solution, all based on intricate knowledge.
While my path has in by no means been direct, I find myself coming back to that idea about eight years later. I have worked as a journalist and studied psychology and communication, all fields that I believe will help me as I pursue joining the field of PT. I love asking questions, thinking about problems, trying to fix them in concrete ways, and meeting and getting to know people, all traits that have served me well, and will no doubt continue to do so.
Right now I am researching several DPT programs with the hopes of applying in the fall as I take about seven science-y pre-requisite classes. I am also looking into different ways to gain PT experience this summer. While I embark on this journey, I’d like to use this space as a forum for discussing all things PT, since writing is how I best explore my understanding of things. I hope to write about interesting PT-related articles and studies I read, share thoughts about the educational process, and also converse with other PT-minded people.
If all goes according to plan, I will still be blogging as I become a physical therapist in 2015. Wish me luck!
